Support The Teachers' Fight · 15 October 05

Our current provincial overlords decided it was inconvenient to abide by the percieved labor law and negotiate a fair settlement with the more than 38,000 teachers in B.C. Instead, legislation to supend and extend their contract making strikes illegal was hastily put through, and negative spin was perpetrated through the controlled media portaying the teachers as “not being fair to students”. Since neither has a say in a dispute that’s been fixed by government intervention, this couldn’t be more untrue.

From the cbc:

The B.C. Federation of Labour is organizing a day of protest in Victoria on Monday in support of striking teachers, who have been off the job for more than a week.

Federation president Jim Sinclair says he expects thousands of unionized workers in the capital to take time off work to attend Monday’s march and rally at the legislature – shutting down all but essential services in the city.

“We expect shutdowns throughout Greater Victoria as union members, supportive parents and community groups take part,” says Sinclair.
